The Lake House Full Movie

The scenes where Kate and Morgan go to Henry's office, and Kate's dramatic exit down the stairs, were filmed at the Chicago Architecture Foundation. The scene where Henry and Alex talk on the street after being in their father's office was filmed on the 400 block of South Michigan Ave, in front of the Fine Arts Building and the Auditorium Theater. The scene where Kate gets stood-up is in Millennium Park at the Park Grill. The bar scene in the Loop where Kate is seen sitting on the barstool, speaking with the woman at the wooden bar, is the real "Millers Pub" located at 134 S Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60603.

Thus, she seeks to change the address to her present residence in Chicago. While the letter is not meant for Alex, he reads it and writes an impeccable reply. Meanwhile, while lazing in a park on Valentine’s Day, Kate sees a hit-and-run incident. However, as the lake house, and especially its adjacent mailbox, stay in a temporal flux, Kate establishes communication with the mysterious Alex (Keanu Reeves), who claims to live two years in the past.

Alex makes a reservation at a restaurant two years in advance for him, but the next day for Kate. Heartbroken, Kate ends their relationship and stops visiting the lake house to settle for a future with Morgan. Alex places their letters in a box in the house’s attic, like what Kate described in her first letter, and moves in with his brother Henry, also an architect. After filming, the house was required to be removed, and a simple fishing dock was put in its place.[4] The downtown scenes are in The Loop.

Movie News & Guides

If you approach it with a rational, skeptical mind, "The Lake House" will fall apart almost immediately. You'll just have to accept that a book can travel through the mail to a date earlier than the one printed on its copyright page, and that a fancy Chicago restaurant will hold an unconfirmed reservation for two years. In 2006, physician Kate Forster leaves a lake house she has been renting near Chicago and starts a job at a downtown hospital.

About this movie

With the revelation that the mailbox acts as a time machine, Kate’s epistolary time warp romance with Alex reaches an equilibrium, and they long to meet each other. At the lake house, Kate is distraught with grief that she failed to save Alex and collapses to her knees at the mailbox. However, as the protagonists inhabit different timelines (which may as well indicate their respective states of mind — while Alex lives in the past of his memories, Kate lives in the future of her aspirations), the present seems challenging to grasp. In other words, Kate’s past is Alex’s future, as it is a timeless present for the audience. Curiously, in the end, it is Kate who seems to be living in the past, holding on to the memories of Alex.

In Which Year Does The Movie End?

Realizing Alex was the man she failed to save at Daley Plaza, Kate rushes to the lake house herself and writes a frantic message to Alex begging him to wait two years and find her at the lake house. Alex does find Kate in Daley Plaza but stops himself from greeting her having received her letter. A lonely doctor who once occupied an unusual lakeside home begins exchanging love letters with its former resident, a frustrated architect. No, Kate and Alex do not end up together, even if the final minutes suggest the contrary. While Kate desperately looks for a reply in the mailbox, she finds nothing, breaking into tears. Shortly after, Alex walks through the woods, and the lovers embrace for a picture-perfect ending.

They do arrange one date, which involves them in some kind of time-loop misunderstanding, I think. I mean, I understand the event she refers to, but not whether it is a necessary event or can be prevented.

The mailbox eventually gets into the act by raising and lowering its own little red flag. The two people come to love each other, and this process involves the movie's second impossibility. While having lunch in Daley Plaza on Valentine’s Day, 2006, Kate witnesses a man get hit by a car and tries but fails to save him.

But the movie is, above all, a showcase for its stars, who seem gratifyingly comfortable in their own skin and delighted to be in each other's company again, in another deeply silly, effortlessly entertaining movie. "Not much has changed," Kate writes to him at one point, when he asks what things are like in the future. His general lack of curiosity — he doesn't ask who won the presidential election or the World Series, or pester her for stock market tips — is in keeping with the fuzziness of the film's conceit.

Kate tries to forget Alex, but discovering the copy of ‘Persuasion’ brings back Alex’s memory, and her mind starts spiraling again. In that way, the movie pays homage to the timeless Jane Austen novel. If Kate does not speak to Alex before the February 2006 accident, how can she prevent Alex’s fatality? Therefore, in all probability, Alex has been dead since the beginning of the story. Seemingly, Alex and Kate meet sometime between 2004 and 2006, on the eve of Kate’s birthday. After catching Kate kissing Alex, Kate’s committal relationship with Morgan goes through some trouble.

Then, Kate discovers that the person who dies on the streets on February 14, 2006, is the same person who kissed him at the party. After the discovery, Kate’s mind spirals, and she starts living in unfinished fantasies of the past. As Kate tells Alex earlier in the story, he died in the accident, while she created a story around him to cope with the trauma. However, this reading would be natural if not for the final moments, where Alex seems to be quite alive as he hugs and kisses Kate.

The Lake House movie review & film summary 2006

lake house film

Thanks to the premonition of Alex’s death, Kate forbids him to cross the road at the park in a letter she writes for him. Voila, Alex does not cross the road, and he remains alive at the end. While a happy ending is what the creative heads aimed for the story, they did not tie all the loose ends. The story begins in 2006, when Kate Forster (Bullock), a lonely doctor, begins writing letters to the frustrated architect Alex Wyler (Reeves) who lives in her former home, only to discover that they're living two years apart.

Movie Info

She was already quite lonesome, and she thought that was not how Valentine’s Day should have ended. Therefore, more than Alex’s physical presence, her belief in romance propels the story forward. The idea leads her to the mailbox, which becomes a point in her habitual fantasizing. Gradually, Kate lost herself in the fantasy where time stood still. However, as she stresses towards the end of the confession, Kate has learned to live the life she has got (and not think about what she is missing out on).

They both leave their letters in the mailbox beside the sidewalk that leads to the bridge that leads to the glass house.

In Which Year Does The Movie End?

It is, although in this case the viewer will also have to grapple with a heavy dose of Hollywood metaphysics, which keeps the leads apart for most of the movie. Sandra Bullock is an enormously likable actor in the right role, and so is Keanu Reeves, although here they're both required to be marginally depressed because of events in their current (but not simultaneous) lives. Many of his problems circle around his father, Louis Wyler (Christopher Plummer), a famous Chicago architect. The old man is an egocentric genius who designed the Lake House, which his son dislikes because, like Louis himself, it lives in isolation; there aren't even any stairs to get down to the water. The plot of The Lake House is a little too convoluted, and the film fails to pull off the sweeping romance it aims for. Maybe I'm just overly romantic or sentimental or just plain naive, but I probably liked The Lake House more than I should have.

Upcoming Drama movies

However, Alex can’t be alive at the time because he dies on the morning of Valentine’s Day, 2006. For instance, Kate finds her lost copy of Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion’ on the wooden floor of the lake house. Kate and Alex, by means of handwritten letters placed in that mailbox (and read in back-and-forth voice- over to simulate real-time conversations), fall deeply and achingly in love.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Are Reunited in 'The Lake House'

When the timelines mingle, the melancholic story spirals out of control. If you can not quite put your finger around the finale, let us be of assistance. The contrivances of the plot, which may require occasional glances at a multiyear date book, are smoothly handled by David Auburn's script and by Mr. Agresti's direction. Visually, "The Lake House" is elegant without being terribly showy, with a connoisseur's eye for Chicago's architectural glories.

Some unexplained wrinkle in the space-time continuum — or a serious glitch at the postal service — has made it possible for Kate, in 2006, to correspond with Alex, who is still making his way through 2004. Alejandro Agresti directed the romantic fantasy movie ‘The Lake House.’ The story, an adaptation of the South Korean film ‘Siworae,’ follows lonesome medical practitioner Kate (Sandra Bullock). When her attempts at saving a hit-and-run victim on Valentine’s Day 2006 fails, Kate lets the viewers know how she has inherited the titular lake house that she does not inhabit. The movie possibly ends in 2008, as Henry lets Kate know that Alex died “two years ago today.” While oscillating between the past and future, the film reflects upon the timelessness of the present.

"The Lake House," while completely preposterous, is not without charm. At the start, Ms. Bullock's character, Kate, a stressed-out physician who has just completed her residency, moves out of the architectural curiosity that gives the picture its title, leaving a note in the mailbox for the next tenant. That would be Mr. Reeves's Alex, a soulful real estate developer who turns out actually to be the previous tenant.

In 2004, Alex runs a construction business after Simon, his father and a great architect. While leaving for Madison on a train, Kate catches a glimpse of Alex, who runs by the train to give Kate back her copy of Jane Austen’s ‘Persuasion.’ Disheartened that she does not know her admirer yet, Kate fixes a date with Alex on July 10, 2006, at 9.05 pm. Although Alex does not call her at the moment, Kate meets Alex and Mona at her birthday party later. Alex and Kate cannot speak much, as they feel the burden of the future. While they try to hold on to the present, time flows between them.

Therefore, more than confusing the audience to figure out the nooks and crannies of the timeline, the film encourages us to remain in the present. It is at least more feasible than the other, straightforward suggestion. Movies like ‘The Butterfly Effect‘ and ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind‘ tell us that there is nothing straightforward about time warp movies, and this one is no different.

They regularly trade letters, using the mailbox’s red flag to determine when the other has received their message. Eventually, they learn that they are living two years apart, but can communicate through the mailbox almost instantly. Kate asks Alex to find a copy of Jane Austen's Persuasion that she left at a train station, which he does, and Alex takes Kate on a tour of his favorite architecture in Chicago. Both eventually meet at a birthday party Kate’s then boyfriend, an attorney named Morgan, throws for her.

Despite sharing a kiss, Alex does not tell Kate about the letters. Alex’s narcissistic father, respected architect Simon Wyler, is hospitalized and dies. Kate finds a book of photos of Simon’s work which hasn't been published in Alex’s time that includes a photo of Simon and Alex as a little boy at the lake house. Not wanting him to wait until it is published, she leaves it for him in the mailbox, hoping it will comfort him.

She leaves a note in the mailbox asking the next tenant to forward her mail and explaining that the painted-on pawprints on the front walkway were there when she moved in as was the box in the attic. "The Lake House," a wondrously illogical time-travel romance directed by Alejandro Agresti, is notable mainly for reuniting Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, who together survived a harrowing bus ride in "Speed." That was 12 years ago — how time flies! — and since then they have gone their separate movie-star ways, into the "Miss Congeniality" and "Matrix" franchises, as well as into a startlingly long list of bad movies, of which I will mention only "Hope Floats" and "Sweet November." Supposedly letter-bound, the couple's conversations come across more like instant messaging, while Kate's lack of investigative skills or inquisitiveness will appal even the most half-hearted of romantic stalkers. So while the general public has not, as far as I can tell, been clamoring for a reunion, "The Lake House" nonetheless functions as a fascinating experiment. Is the chemistry — or, given that "Speed" was all about the velocity of bodies in motion, the physics — still there?

Kate may be dreaming in the final moments and even for most of the story. Towards the end of the story, Kate attempts to escape the illusion when she tells Alex how she thought him up. You may remember how after grabbing food with her mother at Daley Plaza, Kate experienced a nasty accident. Kate calls emergency services and attempts to save the guy, but he seemingly dies. On the other hand, Kate asks Alex to meet at her place, but the location takes Alex to a construction site. He plants a tree in front of it, which has grown quite a bit in Kate’s timeline.

In the early sequence, Kate wakes up in the lake house when it’s autumn. During winter, Alex, the son of the house’s original owner, reaches there and reads Kate’s letter. Kate does not live in the house since she does not think that a cottage should be more than 6000 square feet in area.

On Valentine’s Day, 2006 for Alex, he recalls Kate’s mentioning Daley Plaza and hurries to the lake house to retrieve their letters. Meanwhile, Kate and Morgan meet with Henry, who they hired to design a house they bought together. When Kate asks about a drawing of the lake house displayed in Henry’s office, Henry says the artist was his brother, Alex. Kate realizes Henry’s brother is the same Alex she was writing to and asks about him, but Henry explains he died on that day two years earlier.

The couple were married the same year at Westminster Abbey, and had four children together. After her father died in 1952, Elizabeth ascended to the throne, going on to become both the longest-reigning and the longest-living British monarch in history, having reigned for 70 years. Her great-grandmother Queen Victoria, the second longest-reigning monarch, reigned for 63 years. In 2001, Edward and Ardent Productions faced criticism when a crew allegedly tried to film Prince William — his nephew — at university, breaching a media agreement to respect the young royal’s privacy. A year later, Edward announced he was quitting the production company to focus on supporting the queen during her golden jubilee year. The move came after he had been accused of exploiting his royal position for business gain. In February 2021, Eugenie gave birth to their first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

Below follow the line of succession and explore the many branches of the family over which Charles now presides. This is the family tree of the British royal family, from James I (who united the crowns of England and Scotland) to the present monarch, Charles III. The younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, and Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter. Eugenie attended St George’s School with her elder sister Beatrice, and later graduated from Newcastle University. In October of 2018, Eugenie married her partner of seven years, Jack Brooksbank, in a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The eldest child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Charles was born in 1948 in Buckingham Palace. Queen Elizabeth II’s children would normally have borne their father’s surname, Mountbatten (which itself had been Anglicized from Battenberg). However, in 1952, soon after her accession, she declared in council that her children and descendants would bear the surname Windsor. That decision was modified (February 8, 1960) to the effect that issue other than those styled prince or princess and royal highness should bear the name Mountbatten-Windsor.

She met Prince Charles when she was 16, and married him in July of 1981, becoming the Princess of Wales. Charles and Diana had two children together, Prince William and Prince Harry before divorcing in 1996. One year later, she tragically died in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. Having held the title since 1958, Charles is the longest-serving Prince of Wales in history. He is also the first heir to the British throne ever to have a university degree.

The eldest son of George V and Queen Mary, Edward became king after his father’s death in 1936, but threw the country into crisis months later when he proposed to Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée. As monarch, Edward was head of the Church of England, which at the time did not allow divorced people with a living former spouse to remarry in the church, and thus the government opposed the marriage. Unable to marry Simpson and remain on the throne, Edward abdicated in December of 1936, and was succeeded by his younger brother Albert, Queen Elizabeth’s father, who would go on to become King George VI. Edward’s reign lasted just 326 days, one of the shortest in British history. After his abdication, he was named Duke of Windsor and married Simpson in 1937. Neither he nor his sister, Zara, were entitled to a royal title at birth because at that time, titles were only given to grandchildren through the monarch’s sons, not daughters.

They have a son, the third heir to the throne, Prince George, born 2013 and a daughter Princess Charlotte, born 2015. Lucas arrived so quickly that his mother gave birth to him on the bathroom floor of their home in Gloucestershire, south-west England. In an episode of his podcast "The Good, The Bad and The Rugby," Lucas’ father said shortly after the birth he and his new son watched an old rugby game and some golf. Zara does not have official royal duties, although she was chosen by her cousin Prince William to be a godparent to his older son, Prince George.

Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi

Zara has followed in her parents’ footsteps and has had a successful horse-riding career, becoming European and world eventing champion in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Like both her parents, she has also competed in the Olympic Games, winning silver at the 2012 London Olympics. Autumn is Canadian-born and has worked as an actor, playing a minor role in the Bob Hoskins movie “Rainbow.” She has also worked as a management consultant and a personal assistant to veteran British broadcaster Michael Parkinson. Autumn and Peter married at St. George's Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle in 2008. Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence is Princess Anne’s husband; they’ve been married since 1992. James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor, Earl of Wessex, is the only son of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The move made the young princess, who was just 10 years old, the next in line. Two years later, in June of 2021, the couple welcomed their baby daughter, Princess Lilibet 'Lili' Diana.

Andrew was being sued in New York by a woman who alleged she was sexually abused by the senior royal when she was 17. He repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and the case was later settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. Andrew rarely appears in public these days, but surfaced briefly in the days following the deaths of his parents in early 2021 and late 2022 respectively. He retains his own Duke of York title and he is still a member of the royal family, but, like the Sussexes, he no longer represents the family in an official capacity. The second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Princess Anne is one of the hardest working members of the royal family. Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, 2021-

The youngest child of George V and Queen Mary, John was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of four, and was sent to live at Sandringham House where he was cared for by his governess. The line of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, the third son of Victoria, died out in 1974, with the death of Princess Patricia of Connaught, later Lady Patricia Ramsay. This anonymous profile represents a living person with the surname Daniels born in the 1940s. Lili is named after her great-grandmother, whose family nickname was Lilibet.

Lady Louise Windsor, 2003-

A 1994 biography authorized by Charles -- "Prince of Wales," by Jonathan Dimbleby -- revealed that he felt pressured by his father to marry Diana and that he wasn't ever in love with her. According to the book, Charles began having an affair with Camilla in 1986. In 1981, Charles married Lady Diana Spencer, who became the Princess of Wales.

Shortly after, he and his family relocated to the duchess’ home state of California. She now lives in Santa Barbara, California with Harry and their son, Prince Archie, who was born in May 2019, and their daughter, Princess Lilibet, born in June 2021. While she previously had a career in public relations, Sophie is now a full-time working royal like her husband. Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister Margaret was 22 when her sister took the throne, and shortly afterwards became engaged to air force officer Peter Townsend. Because Townsend was divorced, the Church of England would not approve the marriage, and Margaret was famously forced to choose between ending the relationship and losing her royal privileges.

The family welcomed their second child, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, in May 2023. Beatrice Elizabeth Mary is the elder daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. In the late 1990s and early 2000s she appeared on ABC, CNN and NBC’s Today show as a guest host, interviewee or special correspondent. By 1992, the couple were separated and a few years later the BBC reported that Sarah was struggling financially, racking up huge debts. She was involved in various financial and personal scandals including when, in 2010, she allegedly offered an undercover reporter posing as a businessman access to her ex-husband for a large sum of money. Sarah Margaret “Fergie” Ferguson was married to Prince Andrew for a decade from 1986 until their highly publicized divorce.

Their eldest son, King Edward VIII, inherited the throne upon his father's death in 1936. Had he remained king, Edward VIII's hypothetical descendants would have inherited the British Crown. In response to rising anti-German sentiments, George V decided to make a considerable PR move. He swapped out Saxe-Coburg and Gotha for the far more English-sounding name of Windsor. The royal family's website said the new name was inspired by Windsor Castle — where George V's granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II still resides on weekends. The royal family tree of Britain's monarchy is quite a thing to behold.

The couple had two sons, William and Harry, before their marriage was dissolved in 1996. After his older brother's abdication, King George VI took to the throne for a reign of nearly 15 years. He and his wife Queen Elizabeth had two daughters, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.

The only daughter of George V and Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth’s aunt. During World War I, Mary devoted herself to charity work, visiting hospitals and launching fundraising campaigns to support British soldiers and sailors. She later trained as a nurse, and worked two days a week at the Great Ormond Street children’s hospital in London. In 1922, Mary married Viscount Lascelles, who later became Earl of Harewood; theirs was the first royal wedding to receive coverage in fashion magazines like Vogue.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, had a dynamic career in public relations, eventually setting up her own agency; RJH Public Relations. However, in 2001, Sophie resigned after she was caught making disparaging comments about royal family members and various public figures to an undercover reporter posing as a potential client. Edward met his future wife, Sophie Rhys-Jones, at a Real Tennis event in 1993. They married at Windsor Castle six years later, and have since had two children. On his wedding day he was given the title Earl of Wessex, and in 2019, was granted the additional title of Earl of Forfar, which he uses when in Scotland.

Peter Mark Andrew Phillips is the only son of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips and the queen’s eldest grandson. Timothy is a career naval officer, serving almost 40 years in the Royal Navy and retiring in 2010. The following year, the queen made him Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

‘We expect Powell to make a hawkish pivot’—Fed meeting to headline busy week for global markets

Below is information about the HGTV Dream Home on Anastasia Island and what to expect if you get the keys to this TV-genic Florida oasis. "This year's home is designed to encompass the relaxed vibe of Anastasia Island with coastal comfort chic," said Flynn. "I wanted to make the home feel like its own breezy paradise with calming colors and an ample amount of natural light that the winner would dream about coming home to." Anastasia Island is located off the northeast Atlantic coast of Florida, just east of St. Augustine, which is considered to be the oldest city in America. The 14-mile island is connected to the city of St. Augustine by the Bridge of Lions, giving access to everything from the charming cobblestone streets and powder sand beaches to historical sites and a wide range of activities.

"I also love how the massive wagon wheel chandelier stands out against it." "[Designing] it was like living out my own Scandinavian cabin dreams!" he continues. "The house sits up high in the Vermont mountains, and the overall architecture is best described as a luxury cabin with sweeping mountain views and tons of amazing outdoor living space. It's overall understated and livable with modern touches." The annual HGTV Dream Home Giveaway is one of the network's most beloved traditions, as they design, build and give away a fully-furnished family home — in one of the country's most sought-after destinations — to one lucky winner. The house has two guest suites and a loft with a wet bar and mini fridge.

From a section filled with lounge chairs to a fire pit area with a round couch, the back terrace has several seating areas. With landscape architecture from Designs by Sundown, the dreamy yard not only has a full outdoor kitchen, but it also features a waterfall and natural stone bridge to play into the surrounding landscape. When asked what makes this house different from the past six he's designed for the fan-favorite giveaway, Flynn gives an unexpected reply. "Dinosaurs! Weird answer, I know. But there is a rich history of dinosaur fossils all around Morrison, Colorado, and when you're local, you see nods to them everywhere from national parks to murals and even on guided tours," he says. "I love the limestone fireplace facade of the dining room. It's so classic and timeless and offers so much rugged texture," he says.

Why was 2024 HGTV Dream Home in Florida under scrutiny?

The 14-mile barrier island averages 1 mile in width and is separated from the mainland by the Matanzas River. The 2024 HGTV Dream Home is on Anastasia Island in Northeast Florida and described as "a grand coastal escape."

The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. The House has passed legislation that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away any time soon. But as it turns out, one former HGTV star’s house-flipping show was masking major real estate fraud.

The backyard is a getaway with an outdoor kitchen and high-top bar, a pool with an elevated platform and a pergola. As of Feb. 20, 2024, five days after voting officially closed for the 2024 HGTV Dream Home sweepstates contest, a winner has not been announced. The company has good reason to think a legal challenge could be successful, having seen some success in previous legal fights over its operations in the U.S. In November, a federal judge blocked a Montana law that would ban TikTok use across the state after the company and five content creators who use the platform sued. A couch in the back family room looks exactly like a life-sized replica of the cardboard toy couch from the original Barbie Dreamhouse in 1962.

Members of both parties, along with intelligence officials, have worried that Chinese authorities could force ByteDance to hand over American user data or direct the company to suppress or boost TikTok content favorable to its interests. TikTok has denied assertions that it could be used as a tool of the Chinese government and has said it has not shared U.S. user data with Chinese authorities. The House’s overwhelming vote to ban TikTok unless it is freed from Chinese control suggests that a ban might be coming soon. According to the indictment shared with Fortune, the accusations against Hill happened between 2012 and 2014, around the time his show (which lasted just one season) began. The indictment shows 10 counts of grand theft of personal property exceeding $950,000; three counts of embezzlement; and one count of diversion of construction funds. Hill could not be reached by Fortune to comment on the indictment, conviction, or sentencing.

If you can manage a drive by of the area, the house will be hard to miss as it has a massive pink handle labeled with the classic Barbie 'B' sticking out of the roof and larger-than-life pink flamingo statues lining the path to the front door. One lucky Barbie superfan will even get the chance the stay in the Barbie Dreamhouse, which will depend on which design duo wins the competition. Voting in the HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes ended a day after Valentine's Day (Feb. 15) with a drawing reportedly on Leap Day 2024 (Feb. 29).

Back when mortgage rates and home prices were more reasonable and manageable, homeowners invested in fixer-upper properties and made them their own. But in the early-to-mid-2010s, HGTV shows including Fixer Upper, Love It or List It, and Flip It to Win It were all the rage as viewers binge-watched dilapidated homes transform into dream properties. Viewers can tune-in to the one-hour special HGTV Smart Home 2024 on April 19 at 7pm on HGTV, HGTV GO, Max and discovery+. "I mean, how often do you get to put a handle on a house?" Bynum says.

After catching our first glimpse at HGTV's real-life Barbie Dreamhouse, we're all wondering where in the world is this house? From the 60s inspired Barbie kitchen to the Ken's Den inspired by the 70s Barbie era, this house is a sight to see from top to bottom including the exterior. From what we've seen so far, it's nothing short of any Barbie lover's dream, but we expected nothing less from our favorite HGTV stars. Coastal Getaway LLC.’s 3,300-square-foot, three-bedroom, four-bath, shoreline Dream Home sidles a conservation zone that is designed to protect the area’s natural plant and wildlife. City files and photographs show that the home’s 80-foot-wide structure violates the city’s 75-foot limit for construction that aligns with the conservation zone. Winning an HGTV Dream Home is like winning the lottery − the odds are slim, and only a handful of people have won in the history of the sweepstakes contest.

A mug sitting on a side table has pink lipstick left on the rim, and a portrait of astronaut Barbie, released in 1965, hangs on the wall. Walking through the house with Valencia, I'm immediately struck by the attention to detail as she explains the intention behind every design element. The colors are overwhelming but purposeful, with a spiral staircase in the living room painted the same shades of bright pink and green as the accents on Margot Robbie's and Ryan Gosling's roller-skating outfits from the "Barbie" movie. A palm tree by the stairs bears black-and-white stripes on its trunk, a nod to the zebra-striped swimsuit of the first Barbie released in 1959. Not only did designers have to work around the house's existing structure; they had to work in front of nosy neighbors.

Who won 2024 HGTV Dream Home on Anastasia Island in Florida sweepstakes contest?

HGTV decorator Brian Patrick Flynn, who helmed the house's interior design, spoke with PEOPLE about its unique style and one-of-a-kind features. The second floor is where the main suite is located, as well as a guest suite with a kitchenette and full bathroom for friends and family who come to visit. A loft space on the second-floor landing is Flynn's "hands down" favorite part of the home, he says, complete with a private balcony and Murphy bed for extra guests. The sweepstakes officially ended this month for the beautiful Anastasia Island, Florida, home that was designed by architect Michael Stauffer and built by local builder Glenn Layton Homes.

If you win the 2024 HGTV Dream Home on Anastasia Island, Florida, near St. Augustine, you can sell the home. Several past winners of HGTV's popular sweepstakes have done just that. "The house sits more or less on the side of a mountain and so building into such a slope was a massive engineering feat, but once that was all tackled, all else was super smooth." For almost three decades, the network's HGTV Dream Home Giveaway has given one lucky winner a fully-furnished property in an idyllic destination, and this year, fans have another shot at winning a brand-new home. It also boasts a pool with a view in the backyard — which also features an outdoor kitchen, firepit and hot tub — a feature Flynn says is rare to find in Vermont.

At the Feb. 7 meeting, board member Charles Pappas said that if the plans had been reviewed by the board with input from an environmental engineer, the pool and its deck would have been most likely reduced in size. During its March meeting, the St. Augustine planning and zoning board voted to continue the proposal to fully approve the home at its next meeting on April 2. The 2023 HGTV Dream Home winner will not only get the keys to the fully-furnished home, but also a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and $100,000 from Ally, a package worth over $2.7 million. For more information and an in-depth look at the property, be sure to catch the one-hour HGTV Dream Home 2022 special, airing Saturday, January 1 at 8 pm ET on HGTV. "It's so tucked up in a dreamy, sleepy town with endless outdoor activities just steps from the front door," Flynn says of the property, which is a short drive away from the popular Sugarbush Resort ski village. "From its architecture and unique and understated palette to the stunning foliage, it may be the dreamiest of all HGTV Dream Homes we've ever done."

According to HGTV, the winner will be notified by April 30, 2024, and a winner's list will be published online by May 15, 2024. From a quaint reading nook hidden behind bookshelf doors to a coffee bar off the kitchen, the house is filled with unexpected, leisure-focused rooms. Last year's home — for the 25th anniversary of the Dream Home — was a hillside, nautical-inspired estate in Newport, Rhode Island. Highlights of the home included a massive kitchen with state-of-art appliances and a full dining area on the first floor, as well as a living room complete with a two-sided fireplace that leads into the all-season sunroom. HGTV's 2022 Dream Home is officially here — and it's a four-season paradise for anyone who loves the outdoors (and great design!). Anastasia Island is along Florida's northeast coast, east of St. Augustine.

The sale never went through for a number of reasons; one was China, which imposed stricter export controls on its technology providers. The bill’s quick path through Congress is extraordinary because it targets one company and because Congress has taken a hands-off approach to tech regulation for decades. Lawmakers had failed to act despite efforts to protect children online, safeguard users’ privacy and make companies more liable for content posted on their platforms, among other measures.

The laundry room and mudroom sit between the kitchen and an attached two-car garage. The main bedroom has a skylight and offers a private retreat from the rest of the home with a walk-in closet and main bathroom. A drawing will take place on Leap Day 2024 for the 2024 HGTV Dream Home.

Eight teams of designers from several shows on the home improvement and real estate cable network remodeled the house into a property that's a livable homage to different iterations of the Mattel toy franchise through the decades. The kitchen, for instance, is based on Barbie designs from the 1960s, while the front living room draws inspiration from Barbie aesthetics of the '90s. But what does that mean, and does it affect HGTV picking a 2024 Dream Home winner? What we do know is that a winner will be announced before April 30 per contest rules. And below, we took a look back at when the HGTV network released the names of the HGTV Dream Home winners over the years and provided other information about the 2024 HGTV Dream Home in Anastasia Island, Florida. Designed by Western Design Group and built by Mountain Plain Homes, the 4,360-square-foot property boasts three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

He said he thinks there could have been less restrictive ways to go after the company that wouldn’t result in a total ban or threaten free speech. The U.S. government has not publicly provided evidence that shows TikTok shared U.S. user data with the Chinese government or tinkered with the company’s popular algorithm, which influences what Americans see.

But the TikTok ban reflects widespread concerns from lawmakers about China. The company has indicated that it would likely go to court to try to block the law if it passes, arguing it would deprive the app’s millions of users of their 1st Amendment rights. Victims who spoke at Tuesday’s hearing said they’re still reeling from the financial and professional damages from the fraud, according to the district attorney’s office. “To hide the theft, he created false balance sheets and got loans using fraudulent information,” according to the district attorney’s office. The space should be comfortable for socializing and be set up for your interests. For example, if you like playing a musical instrument during your free time, set up a spot for this in a corner. The couch you choose for your living room is also important in terms of functionality, budget, and how long the piece will last. Emily Ward, cofounder of the company with Louisa Pierce, met Johnson when she was living in Nashville, and they became pals before the design firm was founded. “Dakota was extremely fun to work with because she had a very clear vision of what she wanted,” Ward says. “The upstairs floor was made entirely of cork, which was really cool but wasn’t salvageable,” Ward says.

Johnson, like many other celebrities, also seems to enjoy having a few crystals placed throughout her space. Several different crystals were arranged on a credenza in her dining room, and she also had a large frosted white crystal affixed to a plain black base tucked away in one corner, serving almost as a sculpture. Johnson also doesn't seem like the type to keep her counters absolutely bare and free of any clutter, instead preferring to show off her style in the form of a few additions. Several wood cutting boards were positioned on the counter, leaning against the backsplash, and there was also a kettle in a worn bronze hue placed atop the gas range — perfect for those who love to cook! There were also a few small pieces of artwork scattered along the counter and two different vessels filled with fresh green limes.

The actress first planted these trees when she moved into the home, and now they are blossoming. Her green thumb has not been as successful in the rest of the garden, however. While there's a patch of earth meant for an herb garden, Johnson has yet to plant anything in it. A big fan of crystals, Dakota Johnson has many glittering gems displayed around her home. From small gems decorating a dining room mantel to a toddler-sized quartz in a corner of the living room, there are plenty of good vibes to go around in the house.

While the interior of Johnson's home is a total vintage showstopper, the exterior also has plenty of eye-catching details (via YouTube) and is styled in a way that makes it seem like a private oasis. The primary feature is a long, narrow pool that stretches along one side of the house, with sleek lounge chairs surroundings it. A skylight in the middle of the kitchen area fills the space with natural light (via YouTube). Johnson revealed that she decided on the gorgeous green hue for her cabinets. Sleek silver hardware completes the look, and most of the upper cabinets have doors with large glass panels inserted, offering a glimpse at the contents inside, including some of the bold dishes she has collected over the years.

According to This Old House, painting the cabinetry is a great way to freshen up a kitchen while saving a healthy chunk of change. Depending on how many cabinets need to be painted, the entire project shouldn't cost much more than $200 and will likely take about a weekend to complete. While many say that music just sounds better on vinyl, there are also other reasons to set up a player in your living room or home office space. It's also fun to hunt down records you've been searching for and slowly build up your collection. Start by writing down a list of your favorite albums of all time and then visit local record shops. If your favorite tunes are more current, you should have no trouble finding them in stock.

“The federal government continues to fund the military industrial complex and this is a business model that requires Congress to continue to vote for money, to continue to fund foreign wars,” Greene said. But now Democrats, fed up with the dysfunction, are willing to disarm the extremists. And now that Johnson has finally let Congress approve Biden’s request for aid to a desperate Ukraine (as well as Israel, Gaza and Taiwan), Democrats are poised to provide the votes to prevent his defenestration.

Originally constructed by architect Carl Maston, Dakota Johnson's home is full of charm and character. According to Architectural Digest, the treehouse is nestled into a quiet cul-de-sac in Los Angeles and surrounded by a variety of lush green trees. There are three large front doors built into one wall of the living area, making it easy to welcome guests into the space. The back wall is made of floor-to-ceiling glass doors, which lead out to a pool and spacious outdoor area and add a lot of light to the home. In her recent interview with Vogue, Dakota Johnson shared an exclusive look into her stylish Los Angeles home. The actress’s residence seamlessly combines contemporary design with vintage elements, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Second, Trump doesn’t want the Republican caucus to turn into an embarrassing circular firing squad while he is running for president. (It’s remarkable that Trump is worried that other Republicans will make him look bad.) Third, Democrats have signaled that they will help Johnson keep his job after he courageously did the right thing. And finally, no one appears to want Johnson’s job who could also get the job. For the last few years, congressional Republicans have been split into factions that are not ideological in the traditional sense. Pick nearly any standard domestic policy issue — abortion, gun rights, taxes, immigration — and you won’t see much evidence of the schism.

The main aspect to think about before investing in a pool heater is the climate you live in. If you live in a colder climate, there is more benefit to heating since it will make it possible to utilize your pool for more months of the year. However, if you live somewhere like Florida or southern California, there is probably less reason to install a heater. If you're wondering which stones are best for use in the home, some great starter crystals include amethyst, rose quartz, selenite, black tourmaline, shungite, and clear quartz. These stones help cleanse negative energy, whether you place them in a living room or display them on a bookshelf. And as wonderful of a memory as that might be, it’s completely understandable why a childhood on the road left Johnson wanting a more grounded life.

She’s a friend of the artist and director, who’s best known for filming sordid stories, and she was taken by this work because of its sensitive figures. “They’re scary creatures, but they still need love,” she says of the hand-holding monsters in the foreground of the painting. The David Hockney piece in the master bedroom was a gift from Griffith, and in a cabinet in her living room is a vinyl record collection, which she sheepishly admits to having recently alphabetized. Built in 1947 by revered mid-century architect Carl Maston, the wood-framed house features a living room with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a master bedroom flanked by wooden walls.

When it comes to choosing specific pieces to display, select plates that pair well with your kitchen's color palette and existing style. If you wish to showcase bright and colorful dishes, it's best to present them against a neutral background color such as light gray. Dakota Johnson's cute and cozy kitchen pops with olive-green cabinets, white tile work, a tray of limes, and a stunning plant in a head-shaped sculpture. Johnson loves cooking and baking, and the kitchen is always kept well-stocked with tea and coffee.
